Jarrad knew he wanted to invest in property as he had a deposit saved up and some equity in his owner occupied house in Sydney. However, he wasn’t too confident.

“Purchasing an investment property was such a big step for me and I was scared to be forking out so much money. There was that fear of the unknown, but I’m really glad I went ahead with Binnari in the end.”

Jarrad searched for someone he could rely on and trust to assist in purchasing an investment property for about 3 years and had no success. Jarrad found that the property options laid out to him by numerous companies weren’t great in terms of location and projected growth.

Property selection

Jarrad ended up purchasing an off-the-plan land and house package in Brisbane for his first investment, which was completed within 6-12 months of putting down his initial deposit.

“I told Binnari I that I wanted a property that was available in a shorter time frame and they were able to tailor their property options to my needs”.

“I wasn’t too concerned about the property being off the plan. It seems that most properties are these days, and I didn’t want something too old due to missing out on tax depreciation benefits and having to keep up with maintenance.”

The outcome

After the success of Jarrad’s first purchase, he began working towards purchasing a second investment property. Shortly after purchasing Jarrad realised that the rental income was covering all expenses and he was able to focus on saving and looking for another property.

Jarrad tenanted both properties as soon as they were available on the market. The house has also had quite a substantial rent increase since he purchased.

The Brisbane market continues to strengthen and both of Jarrad’s properties are positively geared with values beginning to increase. His first investment has increased approximately $100,000 based on local comparable sales.

Being an expat from the Netherlands, as well as a first home buyer/investor, I had no idea what I was doing. I knew that my first home was not going to be the home I ended up in, so I explained to Binnari that my priority was a good investment return.
